September 1999 Glenn and I traveled to Boothbay Harbor, Maine, USA.
It is positively beautiful up there in the Fall. The sky is vivid blue and the water clear, reflecting the Fall New England foliage. The Summer crowds have thinned, but there is quite a bit of activity about the small village. Lodging rates are reasonable and the seafood is fresh and excellent. The many shops in the village are varied in interest and you can find just about anything you may want from pottery, original art, homemade ice cream and assorted goodies. If antiques are your thing, Boothbay Harbor is worth a stop.
We stayed at Brown's Wharf and enjoyed it very much. The rooms are spacious and very clean and each room has a balcony. It is landscaped beautifully as well. Everything is within reasonable walking distance. Harbor and coastline cruises are available and trips to nearby Islands. If fishing is your thing August might be a better time for that. http://brownswharfinn.com/ Where we stayed
